According to its 2006 IRS Form 990, Ilitch Charities for Children (aka Ilitch Charities) spent $50,000 purchasing "baseball tickets" to distribute to "disadvantaged families."
Mike Ilitch, patriarch of Detroit's Ilitch family, owns the Detroit Tigers Major League Baseball (MLB) team. The family-owned Olympia Entertainment holds the mangament and licensing contracts for Comerica Park, the home field of the Detroit Tigers. Ilitch Holdings, Inc. is the parent company of these and other Ilitch family-owned enterprises.
Christopher Ilitch, CEO of Ilitch Holdings and a member of MotorCity Casino's management committee, is chairman of Ilitch Charities and his wife Kelle is a director. Christopher Ilitch's former executive assistant, David Agius, is president and treasurer of Ilitch Charities.

Ilitch charitable foundations used to promote struggling gambling hall
Detroit's powerful Ilitch family is using its various affiliated charitable foundations to promote and possibly even generate revenue for the struggling Detroit casino owned by the family's matriarch.
According to a press release marketing the two-day festivities, on August 24 & 25, Ilitch Charities along with the Detroit Tigers Foundation and the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, hosted a Detroit area golf tournament which was preceded by a "Summer Soiree" preview party at Detroit's MotorCity Casino.

The gambling hall is reportedly owned entirely by Mrs. Marian Ilitch. Family patriarch Patriarch Mike Ilitch owns the Detroit Tigers and along with Marian is co-owner of the Detroit Red Wings.

Crain's Detroit reports that revenues at the Ilitch casino are down 1.5% over the previous 12 months and in July alone revenues took a 7.26% dive. In the last several years, Moody's and Standard & Poor's have downgraded the credit ratings for MotorCity Casino (aka CCM Merger, Inc.)

UPDATED: Donor's alleged mistress also gave $10,000 to two of his favorite candidates -- Rep. Candice Miller & Sen. Debbie Stabenow
On October 10, 2002 Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) had orchestrated a hearing before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on S. 2986, a bill to expedite and approve land claims paving the way for a Bay Mills Indian Casino in Port Huron. A project reportedly bankrolled by Michael J. Malik, Sr. and Detroit's Ilitch Family.
Five days later, on October 15, 2002 Heather Lufkins (Robinson), a woman who alleges she had an affair with Michael J. Malik, Sr. while he was still married to Mrs. Michele M. Malik; and Denise Ilitch, then an executive at Ilitch Holdings Inc., each contributed $5,000 to the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee - Federal Account. Ms. Lufkins (Robinson) had never contributed to a federal candidate prior to making that $5000 contribution; Ms. Ilitch had some history contributing to others previously but never more than $1,000 at a time.
*NEW* And on Oct. 15, Michael J. Malik, Sr. also joined his two lady friends in contributing $5,000 to the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee - Federal Account. According to FEC records available at PoliticalMoneyLine.com, Malik had made just two previous federal contributions to Members of Congress at $1,000 each.
On February 13, 2003, Rep. Candice Miller introduced a bill, H.R. 831, in the House of Representatives that was also intended to expedite approvals of a Bay Mills Indian casino in Port Huron.
Between March 2003 and February 2004, Heather Lufkins (Robinson) directed three additional contributions totaling $5,000 to two of Michael Malik’s favorite candidates:
On March 11, 2003, Rep. Miller received 30 checks totaling $38,800 from people primarily associated with the Ilitch Family and Malik.
Mike Ilitch, Marian Ilitch, Michael Malik and his alleged girlfriend (a single mother who lived in a house Malik had purchased) each gave $4,000; two other individuals gave $2,000 each; and the other 20 checks from prominent attorneys, real estate execs, and others were for $1,000 or less.
Ms. Lufkins (Robinson) had no previous record of federal political giving nor anything after these four large contributions.
The amounts of Ms. Lufkins (Robinson)'s contributions are suspect and beg questions about the true source of funds that Malik directed to Rep. Miller and Sen. Stabenow.
If Mr. Malik or any other party advanced or reimbursed Ms. Lufkins (Robinson) for these contributions they may have violated federal election laws.

Ilitch administrative aide gives $5000 to Rep. Candice Miller
FEC disclosure documents note that Mr. David Agius, an executive assistant to Christopher Ilitch CEO of Ilitch Holdings, Inc., who also acts as president of the Ilitch Family's "Children's Chairities," made a $5000 contribution to CANDICE PAC on June 30, 2005. That same day, Michael Malik, Mike & Marian Ilitch and Christopher Ilitch, CEO of Ilitch Holdings, Inc., each gave $5000 to CANDICE PAC too. However, unlike the other four, Agius had no record of giving to federal candidates before June 30, 2005; nor after.
