Governor of Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands says he is cooperating in lobbying probe

WASHINGTON - Benigno Fitial, governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, said Thursday that he still regards jailed lobbyist Jack Abramoff and Rep. John Doolittle as "good friends."
But the hearing at which Fitial had just testified revealed just how much some friendships can cost. Abramoff's in jail for political corruption, in part because of his dealings while representing the commonwealth.
Doolittle, R-Roseville, is under investigation because of his relationship with Abramoff. Fitial said he is "cooperating" with prosecutors but would say no more on the advice of his Los Angeles attorney, Thomas Pollack....(more)
