One resident of the Shinnecock Indian Reservation was shot and another stabbed in an altercation over money Monday night, police said.
A 37-year-old male received a graze wound to the pelvis when he was shot by a 27-year-old man during a verbal and physical fight, according to New York State Police. During the same altercation a 30-year-old female Shinnecock woman also used an unknown object to stab a 28-year-old Riverhead man in the right arm.
Officials said the incident occurred at 8:15 p.m. in the Little Beach area. The circumstances of the altercation were revealed in an investigation after all the people involved in the fight fled the scene before police arrived.
The shooting victim refused medical treatment. The stabbing victim was treated at Southampton Hospital but left before police arrived. No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
