Kirk Kerkorian's Influence on Gaming in Michigan, Detroit's Casinos and Marian Ilitch

Detroit Free Press Columnist Tom Walsh wrote several years ago:

KERKORIAN PUTS A NEW SPIN ON DETROIT GAMING

"Kirk Kerkorian ... reclusive 87-year-old billionaire threw Detroit casino scene into further disarray his Vegas-based MGM Mirage announced $7.9-billion bid for Mandalay Resort Group must sell MGM Grand Detroit Casino or MotorCity Kerkorian decides who will be new owner further delays in permanent casino-hotels in Detroit Kerkorian owns 53% of MGM Mirage merged entity will control 10 casinos ½ the hotel rooms & gaming tables in Vegas, plus 18 other properties. Kerkorian’s Detroit ties: bought Chrysler; trying to takeover GM, second home in Detroit ... The upshot: Kerkorian gets to decide who will join MGM and Greektown as Detroit's newest casino owner ... unclear whether Kerkorian, of Las Vegas, spends any time in Detroit ... Former Chrysler executives don't recall Kerkorian visiting here ... don't discuss his personal whereabouts, but no reports of him ever visiting the MGM casino in Detroit.

"Kerkorian ... married for a month in 1999 ... longtime companion Lisa Bonder, formerly of Saline (Michigan), but given squabbling later in court over paternity of a child ... turned out not to be Kerkorian's -- unlikely he spent much family bonding time in Michigan ... here or not ... What we do know is that he's shaking things up around Detroit more than any other 87-year-old. "

Bloggers skeptical about Barstow Casino deals

Blogger The Skeptic @ Skeptic'sEye wrote:

This Will Do Wonders for I-15!

Courtesy of Rough & Tumble (the greatest California news blog ever) comes this story, from John Myers’s blog - to wit::

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has struck gaming agreements with two tribes– from very different parts of the state– to open side-by-side casinos in the city of Barstow, which is nowhere near the tribal lands. The deal, subject to approval by the Legislature and federal officials, would give a Barstow casino to the Big Lagoon Rancheria and one to the Los Coyotes Band of Cahuilla and Cupeno Indians
This fills that pressing public policy need for gamblers on the road to Las Vegas from Southern California to play a few games and hit the bar in Barstow — because Stateline is at least two hours off. Watch for Indian casinos in Baker next! Then — Ivanpah! As if traffic on I-15 weren’t insane enough as it is.

TVT has welcomed more than 178,000 unique vistors

TVT, founded in December 2006, has averaged more than 20,000 visitors annually. It is produced with the support of scores of individuals from coast-to-coast, each a volunteer citizen activist/jounalist, who review tips and compile the verifiable details and documents that are the hallmark of our content.

Since our first post, more than 178,000 visitors have accessed the details compiled uniquely at TVT.

The citizen activists behind TVT wish to extened a big "THANK YOU" to all those who have provided "tips" -- contributed pictures, documents, link suggestions, leads, reports, insight and comments. Your trust and confidence in TVT has allowed us to create a comprehensive resource that thousands of others -- including bloggers, journalists, Members of Congress and other local citizen activists around the country -- have come to rely upon.

We invite feedback and constructive comment and want you to know you are welcome to do that here in "comments" or by contacting us directly and confidentially via allverifiable@gmail.com
