The "Gabby:" a Malik family Sea Ray built sport yacht?

The "Gabby," a 44/45' recreational boat (likely a "sport yacht"), manufactured in 2002 by Sea Ray Boats, Inc. is apparently registered to Michele M. Malik at a Wayne County, Michigan address. Ms. Malik is the most recent ex-wife of Michael J. Malik, Sr.

It's unclear what if any interest Michael Malik may have had or has in the vessel. However, Michael Malik has a history of interest in boating, boats and marine related development projects (Harsens Island, Algonac Harbor Club, etc.). A Mike Malik also requested four permits from the Detroit office of the Army Corps of Engineers between 2001 & 2004 to construct a pier, dock and steel bulkhead+.

A million dollar estate property with lake views in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan apparently owned by Ms. Michele Malik is in foreclosure. The property is two doors down from another million dollar lake view estate property still apprently co-owned by Michael and Michele Malik.

In 2001 Michael Malik formed Renegade Charters LLC, a fishing charter operation based out of Manistee, Michigan. That venture's 35' vessel is skippered by Bob Guenthardt, former chairman of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. Guenthardt was chairman of the tribe when Michael Malik partnered with the tribe to establish the Little River Casino in Manistee; and Guenthardt has subsequently partnered with Michael Malik on other gambling ventures.

Mike Malik recieved Army Corps permits to build pier, reconstruct dock

Mike Malik requested four permits between 2001 & 2004 from the Detroit offfice of the U.S. Army Corps to construct a pier, dock, bulkhead-+ for boats or personal watercraft. Further research might reveal the exact locations of, or details regarding, these projects which appear to be personal rather than commercial.

EDITORIAL: The first of Mike Malik's failed attempts to develop a Marina on Harsens Island

According to an Editorial published in the Port Huron Times Herald on 07.24.2007:

...Mike Malik, a former Algonac city councilman is a close associate of Detroit's influential Ilitch family.

Malik is the chief promoter of a proposed casino at the Thomas Edison Inn in Port Huron. He also has big plans for the 430 acres he controls on Harsens Island. For starters, he wants to dig a boat basin and surround it with scores of McMansions and townhouses.

Fifteen years ago, Malik and wealthy toolmaker Fred Smith of Mount Clemens proposed transforming old CampBold Drusilla Farwell into a Victorian-style resort called Grande Pointe Marina. The $100 million development would have included a hotel, 18-hole golf course and a sprawling marina with at least 1,150 boat slips.

The Harsens Island Preservation Association, led by A.J. Feeney, put up spirited opposition. On March 4, 1992, when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closed the public-comment portion of its permit process, it had received 275 letters of opposition and only 12 in favor of Grande Pointe Marina. The project died...

US Army Corps of Engineers, Sacrameto District - Status of Formerly Used Defense Sites Clean Up

United States Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District

Formerly Used Defense Sites

· Current Projects

· Resources

· List of Sites

The Defense Environmental Restoration Program-Formerly Used Defense Site Program (DERP-FUDS) was established in 1984 by the United States Army with the mission to protect the environment and natural resources for present and future generations as well as human health and safety by removing hazardous material from the environment. The FUDS Program is responsible for environmental restoration of all properties that were formerly owned by, leased to, or otherwise possessed by the United States and under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of Defense.

Currently there are over 9,800 FUDS properties nationwide that have been reviewed for program eligibility and evidence of Department of Defense contamination. Over 2,650 of these properties have been determined to require environmental cleanup action with an estimated cost to cleanup over $18 billion. Within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District (consisting of northern California, Utah and Nevada), there are approximately 457 properties alone and an estimated cleanup cost over $2 billion. The annual budget to clean up and closeout these sites vary every year, which extends the time for site restoration completion and prolongs the startup of sites that have yet to begin.
