Editor has plans to investigate Mike Malik and Ilitch

From "The Editor's Desk" a blog published by Scott Shackford, editor of Barstow's Desert Dispatch:
...We get calls every couple of months from anonymous folks who want us to “investigate” the Michigan bankrollers of the project, who have a less-than-gleaming reputation back home. I’m guessing for some, that we haven’t done so is a sign that we support them as the developer.

...If the compacts ever did finally get approved, we actually discussed plans to send a reporter all the way to Michigan to explore the relationship between the developers and their home community. But if the casinos never move beyond the legislative stage, we can’t exactly justify all that work and expense.

So that’s the explanation why we don’t have more about Michael Malich (sic: correction "Michael Malik") and the Ilitches. It’s not time to take a look at them until the casino moves forward...

Investigating the backers/developer (the real people behind a Barstow Casinos Resort) once local and state approvals have been secured seems a bit ass-backwards, don't you think? An investigation up front might help local and state officials -- and the general public -- determine whether or not they would support such a project.

Heck, for that matter, it's clear the Desert Dispatch hasn't invested much in investigating the tribes either.

This newspaper is such a joke, just from going to their website I don't see any hard hitting stories about Barwest or the casino. All you really see is fluff pieces, sure when something major happens like the Brown Act violations they will report but overall they tend to shy away from anything negative about Barwest or the Casino. Their so called reporters know a lot more about what is going on and yet not one word from them about it, weird huh?

The Desert Dispatch wrote one story ... and hasn't published any follow up stories of which there are certainly numerous ... The paper should have exposed BarWest LLC years ago. If it had perhaps some wouldn't have become Kool-Aid addicts!

I hear BarWest, L.L.C. and LCB BarWest, L.L.C. have generously agreed to one day fund a new wing of the new Barstow Hospital (whenever it's built) -- "The Memorial Mike and Marian Ilitch Center for Kool-Aid Rehab" -- apparently Lee Iacocca, Comerica, Full House Resorts, GM, GMAC, MGM Mirage, Glenn Schaeffer, Mike Malik's ex-wives, Richard Pombo, Don Young and Patrick Kennedy are among the Ilitch "friends" who will contribute as well.

Larry is a joke as well.

You mean Lawrence Dale?

Anonymous said...

No I don't, the appropriate people know who I speak of.

splixx is likely referring to Barstow area political gadfly Larry Halstead. Splixx has made it clear that he/she does not respect/appreciate Halstead.

It must be how he uses that stupid Kool-Aid catchphrase and how he is a liar and total fraud, that must be it. Yep you can point out ol Larry by the Kool-Aid saying, sad and pathetic at the same time.

Splixx, don't be so sure of yourself ... "Kool-Aid Club" is part of national political vernacular and Larry Halstead has merely borrowed it and in Barstow made it his own! :)

Yeah, sure! Thats what I figured you'd say, seeing as how the poster rock hound uses the same phrase. Oh well stupid phrases aside liar and a fraud still seem to fit, guess ya didn't want to argue with that.
