UPDATED: Malik home set for foreclosure

A home owned by the Malik Family is in foreclosure. According to the Wayne County Tax Collector, more than $30,211.30 in delinquent taxes are owed on the Grosse Pointe, Michigan home at 583 Lake Shore Rd believed to be owned by the former Mrs. Michael Malik.

The Detroit Legal News noticed that the 11/12/03 $595,086 mortage held by Flagstar Bank was set for foreclosure sale 10/17/07.

The posh estate home is just two doors down from another Malik lake front home, 591 Lake Shore Rd., still apparently co-owned by Michael J. and Michele M. (sometime spelled Michelle) Malik.

And Michael J. Malik owns yet another lake front property at 960 Lake Shore Rd. in Grosse Pointe, Michigan next door to Mr. and Mrs. Matty Moroun, owners of Detroit International Bridge Co. (Ambassador Bridge). That property is approximately six doors down from the vast lake front estate of William Clay Ford, Jr.

According to Grosse Pointe Township records, the 6,052 square foot home at 583 Lake Shore was built in 1961 and has seven bathrooms. The home was purchased for $2,000,000 in May 2003.

Township records indicate the 8,439 square foot residence at 591 Lake Shore has five bathrooms and was built in 1978. The home was purchased by the Maliks for $2,100,000 in February 2ooo. The tax bill for this property is mailed to the Fox Theater offices also headquarters for Ilitch Holdings, Inc.

Oddly enough, an August 31, 2007 special event notice for one of the Malik homes was published in the Detroit Legal News as follows:

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy honored at summer event

Governor Jennifer Granholm and Michelle Malik will host the Second Annual Summer Lake-shore(sic) Celebration honoring Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy on Sunday, September 9. The event will be hosted at Malik's home in Grosse Pointe Shores.

Attire for the event is business casual. Tickets for the celebration are $150 per person or $200 per couple. Make checks payable to the Committee to Re-elect Kym L. Worthy. No corporate checks or cash payments will be accepted.
