from a piece published 8.31.07 by Boston Globe columnist Steve Bailey entitled "Liar's Poker" regarding disgraced tribal Chairman Glenn Marshall and the Mashpee Wampanoag's grand billion-dollar-plus casino plans for Middleborough, Massachusetts (Cape Cod):
"This has always been less about sovereignty than about the rush by the tribe and its deep-pocketed financial backers, just as elsewhere around the country, to cash in on the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, one of the worst pieces of legislation ever to come out of Congress."

a reader of ours wrote: as I've always been puzzled as to how the media doesn't seem to realize that these Native American groups are just a simple front for big money gaming companies. Its the equivalent of all these "minority owned" or "female owned" companies that get state/federal contracts when they're just a fee paid pass through. Never difficult to figure out.
In an informational meeting held in the town of Middleboro, Glenn Marshall told residents the tribe would not build a casino in town if it was not welcomed.
LET THE TRUTH BE KNOWN!
On July 28, 2007 in a special Town Meeting a majority vote of town residents voted that they did not approve of a resort casino development within the boundaries of the town.
THAT does not sound welcoming to me but to a liar like Glenn Marshall I guess anything goes. The Tribe has not changed their plans to build a Mega Resort Casino in a town and a region that does NOT want it.
