UPDATED: Congressional hearing tomorrow not likely to move off-reservation casino proposals out of Natural Resources Committee

Washington D.C. insiders suggest that although a hearing before the House Natural Resources Committee is scheduled for tomorrow, Feb 6th, to consider two bills that would pave the way for off-reservation casinos in Port Huron and Romulus, Michigan; the Natural Resources Committee is unable to vote on the proposals and move them out of committee tomorrow (Feb. 6th) because the committee failed to provide proper public notice. Insiders reported that the committee could consider a vote to move the two bills out of committee on Feb. 13th.

And now the House Resources Committee has posted a formal announcement for a Feb. 13th Full Committee Mark-Up session to be held at 11:00 AM (eastern) where it will again take up the two Michigan off-reservation casino proposals. The markup will be webcast live on the Committee's Web site at http://resourcescommittee.house.gov.

Under consideration:

• H.R. 2176 sponsored by Rep. Bart Stupak (Bay Mills Indian Community's proposal for a Port Huron casino) and
• H.R. 4115 sponsored by Rep. John Dingell (Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians' proposal for a Romulus casino)
